My life goes on...and a rant

I haven't posted in a while ...sorry but read nonetheless :P

I went on a much needed roadtrip vacation at the end of June that was so-so in some ways and wonderful in others, too short and I want to go again of course. I visited Ainsworth Hot Springs on that trip and let me tell you it is an amazing relaxing and beautiful place and I'd love to have some friends join me next time. RainFurrest is fast approaching I'll be attending that con and spending a day or two in the Seattle area before the con as well. This time around I hope to be more social and less emo -wish me luck.

A couple of things in the news have me perplexed but do not surprise me. For the third straight year crime rates have dropped in Canada and yet one of the major areas of concern of canadians is being 'tough on crime'. The mindless fearful herd mentality basically and yes I am being pointedly mean but it's true. Criminals are not us not our families our friends our co-workers and neigbours, I mean how could they be they are criminals afterall but that's absurd we're close or infact criminals ourselves and very possibly future contraveners of rules laws or ethics.

That is NOT to say I beleive in just letting crimes be forgotten but lets face it once a crime has happened it's too easy to say let the bastard/bitch rot throwing verbal tomatoes at them when in fact the harder and more difficult thorny rose bud to pick is trying to determine and stop, prevent or alter our perceptions of offences before they are committed. Not an easy thing and thus we jump on the 'tough on crime' bandwagon, we can feel safe cuz we are doing something.

I don't want to harp on this subject it just perplexed me that alot of people feel way worse about crime and safety when they shouldn't really. I work very close to one of the poorest and crime infested areas statistically in my city and yet I and many people live, play and walk through this area and have zero problems beyond dealing with the visual, verbal, olfactory and emotional assault of the less than privileged. i find myslef walking home alot rather than taking the bus because of the nice weather wanting to save the change and just be more fit and active and let me tell you I too get fearful at times but is this a real fear or one of preconception probably there is some cause to be a bit brisker and less open but in reality a crime and accidents can happen anywhere. My advice as a city dweller is don't let your guard down anywhere but don't put your guard up so much that you are unhappy and stressed all the time. Yes panhandlers are annoying at times but they are not always homeless or criminals the criminals are often under the radar. Should we as a society, culture and government be dealing with them and the addict and mentally disabled and displaced peoples yes but not classifying them as lower forms of people it's difficult to do that I do it myself and am ashamed of that really I am.

Another news item that is confusing me is that the economy is so bad but really it's not at least here our growth has bounced back from a low period earlier in the year and while growth is slower it's still there don't let a news item or a few whiners or the woes of our neighbours. Be fiscally smart but not hoarding, money spent and made is meant to be circulated in our system. It's very analogous of the crime issue above in that way too. Both, make no mistake are more politic and media rhetoric than anything else.

It's all not easy or cut and dried but I hope we deal with it with thought, care and real world ideas.

Wow the weather sure is warm again after such a coolish greyish wet late spring/early summer. It's great having air conditioning :P

My love life is up and down and confusing been seeing someone who is a wondrous sweet, talented and smoking hot but tends to well be a bit unsure of me and use me a bit I think...sure I am an easy mark but I think that respect for self and the other party is paramount in a relationship at at least if it's gonna last. I am not giving up on him, don't get me wrong he is great but with a few others peeking in with hugs and smiles and yearning it's hard to not question where my path lies. I guess I am pretty demanding in that I know what I want and also that I am still very bruised and hesistant from my heartwrenching failure last year. On that front I am finally able to face him at events without having to psych myself up before and after but it's still hard and tears still flow. I know that I need to get over him but I doubt I ever will completely.

In other news, Our roomate Carthage has left we wish Carthage happiness though, no hard feelings or anything just change was needed and Toast and I are busy renovating, repairing and re-doing our suite in hopes of finding a happy place to dwell a bit longer but also to move at some point in the nearish future to a newer nicer place with a view but in a similar location downtown. I've been looking and found some nice places nearby and as far off as Burnaby and North Van that we'd be happy with but the competiton is high as are the rents but it'll probably worth it once we snag one. Until then we are 'itchy' in our place but mostly fine.

Among the standard events that I attend often mostly of the furry variety there are a few special ones on the horizon too . I'll be taking a fireworks cruise boat ride with NotPC and Mariamaus along with a few pals (if you're interested talk to me) on July 26th and I am again organizing my ~Splendid! event August 2nd and 3rd. ~Splendid is the picnic, fireworks and next day Pride Parade and Festival event that I have helped set-up the last few years it's always fun and I look forward to it so much.

I've been working out more though I am not losing as much weight as I'd like I do feel much better and my clothes fit a bit better which makes me feel good which reinforces the drudge of sometimes working out or at least starting to. The hardest part is not the doing it's the starting to do it!

Summer Movie Viewing Advice (likely unwanted unlistened to)

Don't build your hopes up for the best movie ever or replay with nostalgic glee the past movies tv or books they are based on or sequels to.

Simply put see a Kingdom of a Crystal Skull as just that not Raiders OMG Gee Wilikers Indiana Jones WOW wee! , see a Prince Caspian as a movie not as the childhood icon or hero or a recreation of the magic you saw in The Lion The Witch and their damned closet .. go into Get Smart smart etc. Don't give Hellboy 2 twice the hell for moving on...I want to believe Scully and Mulder reveal all in The X-Files 2 but will they?..You'll enjoy yourself more and hold the filmmakers and crafts people to a sensible ideal not an unattainable magic that can not and will not be recreated.

But you don't listen to me you listen to your dreams and that's good too for you see in my heart and soul I wish like a small boy with a shiney stone in hand that all the wonders will shine too. We can wish high but we can expect less.

99.9% of all the good folks who create and stoke the movie engines are trying to make the best shows they can -it's true, ask them.

But there will be dogs pet them let them snarl and move on .. see other stuff give unknown material a chance too. Some of my best movie-going experiences have been happenstances -being dragged or prodded to a show I knew little or nothing about or didn't think I like the topic of or sometimes being given free press tickets to shows and not wanting to waste them and finding gold or a least a shiny tinge to what I saw on the silverscreen those times.

More like somewhere between omnivore and vegetarian. I could cut out meat(and have at times) except seafood I can't imagine life without seafood!

2. What's your favourite food?
OMG so hard to have a favourite...um the food I cook,order or am served I love- is my favourite till the next time. how's the for evading the question.

3. White bread or whole wheat?
Whole Wheat, Sour Dough , Rye, Seeded Challah.. MARBLE RYE!.

4. What's for breakfast?
I try to have whole grains and fruit each work day. Weekends- waffles from Medina ! or just a nice benny or something.

5. You're making a Dagwood sandwich. What's in it?
Lots of stuff and sauces and cheese and yumminess.

6. What's on your pizza?
Varies lately been loving every cheese they have and red onions.

7. Coffee, tea, milk, or soda?
Coffee in the morning, tea at night and various during the day I avoid soda(pop) but have it when at events or out sometimes.

8. Dark, milk, or white chocolate?
Milk or white chocolate(yes I know carthage it's not really chocolate :P). Once in a while dark chocolate.

9. Teetotal, beer, wine, or hard liquor?
I enjoy wine(sherry is love) and spirits and slowly getting into fine beers more (I blame RyeBunny)

It tastes like cilantro and yummy!

11. Is chorizo the greatest thing ever or is it totally disgusting?
It's just Chorizo not greatest or grungiest.

Both!-so good!

It tastes like broccoli and yummy!

though this time of the year I tend to watch less and spend more time outdoors at events or just out. Last night went out on the seabus (just cuz) and had dinner in North Van very yummy but it meant I missed episode 6 of Hell's Kitchen -Torrented it this morning though so I'll watch it when I can..

Just finished unloading some stock at work 23 boxes average of 30 kgs each it gets the heart moving and the sweat pouring. I imagine I smell but I will shower later. one of the things I love and equally hate about my job duties is that I can do something like that but also do bookkeeping,sales, phonework and mounds of paperwork on my bum in front of the computer, only to turn around to do warehouse work and cleaning organizing and packaging and schlepping to the bank and other places at times too. The exercise seems to have gotten rid of my annoying little headache though :)

I have mentioned a few of these over the years to others to dissuade them from believing them but being told I am dumb and not scientific enough or foolish (okay I am and blonde to boot) a fair amount of the time. *sticks his tongue out* (no it won't stick that way)

The usual response is 'my mum, dad, grannie, aunt etc. told me-so it must be true!' or this happened to me, my friend, cousin, schoolmate etc. So again it must be true!

On the otherpaw sometimes what is proven can be unproven over time. Another reason to not be too hard and fast on things. Life is fluid we start in fluid and end only to wash away with rain and groundwater.

Life seems to be at crossroads lately. If only I could split myself in several versions and try a few choices. C'est la vie.

Highs and Lows yet again

This past weekend was filled with highs and lows and my life seems to often reside in. We had several houseguests staying over and events to try and get to.

elix from Vancouver Island was over and we celebrated his birthday at Zakkushi that was tasty a lot of fun but a bit too chaotic at times but it was good to see him happy for that at least. There was a trip to The Vancouver Public Library's book sale and to the Retrorama Comic and Collectibles show at the Croatian Culture Centre with rye_bunny picked up some fun stuff. We ended up meeting up with savannahcat silvermink fruvous(yay fruvous!) along with Kermy and Earthfurst at the sale and go to the Birthday Dinner where caligo_ and toastfox also joined us. I hope elix had a good time. fuzzifox came back to Vancouver and stayed at our place for the weekend too it was good to see him again along with all the others. After the dinner some us went over to silvermink and savannahcat 's place and met their cute but very allergy inducing kitties and was treated to tea, my little ponies and good talk. I managed to miss out on the VFURmeet that was happening at NotPC and Mariamaus' house that night though so that was sad but I hear it was quite well attended and fun. I wonder where the next one will be...I'm planning on having the June VFURmeet at my place though.

Sunday, after staying up too late and talking through some stuff with elix hope you're doing okay kitten *hug* and dealing with being so allergic to those kitties from earlier in the night I arose far too late but met up with rye_bunny as we had planned to get a group together to go to http://urbandiner.ca/2007/05/17/awesome-tintin-belgian-waffle-house-of-babar/?PHPSESSID=2256cb33502876d3ae861016c4d95e66 for waffles and coffee and talk, but only Matt caligo_ joined us but it was tasty I love that place!
Afterwards caligo_ had to leave (he's busy studying for finals lately(good luck *hugs*) so rye_bunnyand I decided we wanted to get away from the chaos of my place and enjoy the nice day and first go back to the Book Sale at the Library but also just go for a nice long walk and shop and talk(she and I are so good at that) we ended up going for lunch at Cafe S'il Vous Plait which I had been meaning to visit again and I wanted to show her how good it was and indeed 'mindeed' it was lol. We then visited a bunch of places along Granville including a visit to Golden Age Collectibles (I don't think either her or I can go past a comic shop without at least window shopping if not more:P) I didn't buy a thing but rye_bunnypicked up what she needed of 'Birds of Prey' and we then visited Douglas Trading Post, I wanted to get some stickers and fake jewels to decorate and 'mArZize' my new laptop (thanks Toast hun!) this is one of the hidden treasures on Granville you need to pop in there if you're around there I managed to get some stickers and did Rye but I decided to hold-off on the gems until I knew what my design idea was and was more sure of the colours and sizes I needed.

After that rye_bunny and I had spied a good place for a beer on the patio to again gossip and people-watch and such. Thanks the Rickards Red Mindy! you're such an awesome friend but you buy me drinks so that rises you even higher LOL.

We headed back towards my place and hugged goodbye at Stadium Station near my place and sunday evening was quiet though not without a bit of drama (no need to get into that at the moment)
Monday work again is extremely busy but okay too.
I came home after a trip to the Bay deli for dinner parts and watched a bit of TV including one of my new faves 'New Amsterdam' and finally watched the first episode of the latest series of Doctor Who 'Partners in Crime' a silly fun and great episode especially the last bit WOW. I think Donna is yes a different kind of companion compared to Rose or Martha but is gonna be a great one and Well David Tennant is just so awesome, talented, quirky and dreamie too *gush*. The next episode is set in Ancient Pompeii and looks great as well.

Patrick Stewart Defends His Fans From Star trek

Patrick Stewart got testy in an interview recently when he felt that Star Trek fans were being insulted.
As reported by Newsweek, the former Star Trek: The Next Generation star does not buy into the "Trekkies are oddballs" type attitude all too prevalent amongst non-Star Trek fans.
When asked if when playing Macbeth, Stewart was worried about "weird Trekkie fans" in the audience, he replied, "Oh come on, that's just a silly thing to say."
When the reporter persisted, insisting that Star Trek fans were weird, Stewart scolded the woman. "How many do you know personally?" he asked. "You couldn't be more wrong. Here is the thing. If you say the fans are weird, that means there is something essentially weird about the show and there is nothing weird about it. I'm very passionate when people like you snigger."
One thing about working on Star Trek that Stewart found to be a nuisance was wearing the jumpsuit. "I came to loathe it," he explained. "We actually got rid of it after the second season thanks to my chiropractor, who said if they don't take you out of that costume we are going to slap a lawsuit on Paramount for the lasting damage done to your spine."
According to Stewart, the jumpsuit was "made from Lycra and one size too small. The producers wanted to have a smooth, unwrinkled look. It put a terrible amount of strain on the shoulders, neck and back."

It's nice to see Mr. Stewart being sensible about the whole thing condsidering how mainstream Star Trek -The Next Generation is and it's fanbase.

In other news Doctor Who Series 4 begins in The UK this weekend! Weee!

I have been a bit quiet and down lately anniversary of my being hurt so bad last year a few weeks back and just generally feeling a bit left out. There are some fun and chaotic visits, events and things on the horizon though so who knows what the next bit of time holds.

Questions With No Answers

Why do people get upset so much by the things others do happily if they wouldn't do them?

Why does the phrase"That is so wrong!" bug me so much? I actually seethe with anger at hearing that.

Why do the people who order from me on the phone at work that get the most upset about errors in their names and addresses turn out to ber those that are the most hard to understand and rattle off names slurring them and addresses machine gun delivery? (luckily this is only a smal part of my job or I'd implode at times)

Why do I have to settle for others wanting money from me right away while when they owe me I must wait and apparently cheerfully?

What is wrong with wanting some privacy and solitude?
